IACP Continues Its Work to Counter Violent Extremism

This week serves as a reminder that violent extremism continues to be a reality in the United States. Three people killed at two Jewish facilities in Kansas on Sunday, the one-year anniversary of the bombings at the Boston Marathon on Tuesday, and the 19-year anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing on Saturday, remind us that violent acts impact communities and law enforcement agencies nationwide.

In partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), IACP is developing online training to raise awareness and understanding of violent extremism and promote the principles of community policing, community engagement, and community-based solutions. The training will provide law enforcement agencies with information and resources to engage community members and stakeholders in addressing and countering radicalization to violence and acts of violent extremism.

For more information about the training program, click here and visit the IACP website—www.IACP.org—and our CVE page—www.IACP.org/CounteringViolentExtremism.
